How Do I Get Saved?
Lets read a text from Isaiah chapter 53, it is a prophetic, contemplative text about what Jesus toke for us on the cross.
Jesus in our place – Isaiah 53:5-7, NET©
5 He was wounded because of our rebellious deeds, crushed because of our sins; he endured punishment that made us well; because of his wounds we have been healed.
6 All of us had wandered off like sheep; each of us had strayed off on his own path, but the LORD caused the sin of all of us to attack him.
7 He was treated harshly and afflicted, but he did not even open his mouth. Like a lamb led to the slaughtering block, like a sheep silent before her shearers, he did not even open his mouth.
Salvation is not something that comes by itself. It is something we receive from God as a gift. Receiving salvation is the beginning of something new in your life.
If now the punishment and the debts are imposed on Jesus for our sins, how do I have this applied in my own life, and get saved?
Believe in Jesus
30 Then he brought them outside and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:30-31, NET©
The foundation for salvation is to believe in Jesus. It is through the faith in him, that we gain access to the grace of God.
Believing God about something does not mean that we only believe intellectually or emotionally in the existence of God. The faith is very specific, it is about a relationship.
To believe in God, is to have a trust in God, that he responds to us, as we reach out to him.
Confess Jesus as Lord
9 because if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9, NET©
Confession is of the utmost importance. If you choose to believe that Jesus is your savior, it should also be confessed with your mouth. What your mouth speaks is what your heart is full of.
We believe Jesus died on the cross for our sins as the sacrificial lamb of God. We also believe that God raised Jesus from the dead, and thereby won an eternal victory over death and evil.
Let yourself be baptized
16 The one who believes and is baptized will be saved, but the one who does not believe will be condemned. Mark 16:16, NET©
Baptism belongs together with faith and salvation. Baptism is a symbol of burial, that we who receive salvation have been crucified, died, been buried, and raised with Christ from our sins.
If we receive salvation from God and believe him, we will be saved by dying from our own evil desires through the blood that was shed on the cross of calvary.
You must understand that a baptism without faith is worthless, a formal outwardly ritual does not save anyone from anything.
