Transition to Light

Delivered from Darkness into Light

We begin this chapter with another contemplative text from the prophet Isaiah, chapter 9. Jesus as the bright light.

The bright light – Isaiah 9:2-4, NET©

2 The people walking in darkness see a bright light; light shines on those who live in a land of deep darkness.
3 You have enlarged the nation; you give them great joy. They rejoice in your presence as harvesters rejoice; as warriors celebrate when they divide up the plunder.
4 For their oppressive yoke and the club that strikes their shoulders, the cudgel the oppressor uses on them, you have shattered, as in the day of Midian’s defeat.

Salvation is a journey from; a walk in darkness during; slavery, yoke and hostage; to be unshackled from the oppression of darkness, and thereby entering into light. Jesus is the great light that rose like the sun for humankind, when God sent him to earth.

Jesus Sent as Savior

17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world should be saved through him. John 3:17, NET©

The purpose of sending Jesus, was not to judge those who were in slavery by the oppressors. On the contrary, he came for the world to be saved, for those who receive him, those who make Jesus a sacrifice for their sins.

9 For God did not destine us for wrath but for gaining salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. 1 Thessalonians 5:9, NET©

God has decided about those who have received Jesus as savior, that they should not suffer from the wrath of judgment. They should escape the judgement of the sinners, and instead win the salvation, that has become available through Jesus.

Transferred to the Kingdom of God

13 He delivered us from the power of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14, NET©

Before you received salvation, you walked in the darkness. You were in the valley of death. In that darkness, you were slave under sin, tortured by Satan.

When you received Jesus as savior, he freed you from slavery and broke the power of Satan over your life. You received forgiveness of sins and the yoke was loosened from your shoulders.

When this happened, God put you as a free person in the kingdom of Jesus. That is how you have gone from darkness to light. Jesus is that light, through which the work of salvation was carried out on the cross of calvary.
